The Inclusive Education Department at Dubai National School is a vital part of our community, established in line with the UAE’s national and international philosophy of inclusive education.

At DNS, we are committed to meeting the needs of students of determination by providing high-quality educational services that ensure equal opportunities for all learners. Our goal is to prepare students for successful integration into mainstream classrooms alongside their peers.

Our inclusive learning support team comprises highly qualified professionals, including special education teachers, teacher assistants, escorts, visual impairment specialists, psychologists, and speech and language therapists. The team is well-trained in delivering individualized and group-based support through rehabilitation sessions, speech and language therapy, and behavior modification interventions tailored to each student’s needs. Assessments and diagnoses are carried out by a multidisciplinary team and take place in dedicated special education resource rooms.

Students of determination actively participate in all school curricular and extracurricular activities, promoting a sense of belonging and community.

In addition, we offer counselling, awareness programs, and guidance sessions for parents of students of determination. We also provide individualized recommendations to support families in effectively addressing their child’s unique needs.

Empowering Every Learner: Support for Students of Determination (SoD)

Dubai National School provides a structured, inclusive support system to ensure Students of Determination (SoD) thrive within the mainstream educational environment. The school follows a tiered intervention model designed to meet a range of individual needs:

  • Level 1: Differentiated classroom instruction accommodates diverse abilities, learning styles, and behaviors through tailored teaching strategies and practices.
  • Level 2: Individualized support sessions are provided for students who require additional help to meet age-related expectations. These sessions are guided by Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and overseen by specialist staff who conduct observations, offer recommendations, and provide coaching to teachers.
  • Level 3 – Learning Support Section (LSS): For students in special classes or partial inclusion settings, personalized programs are implemented to accelerate learning and maximize potential. These programs are supported by specialized interventions and services.

The SoD section is led by a qualified specialist and supported by the Inclusive Education Action Team, ensuring a collaborative and professional approach to inclusion and student success.
